Canvas Transfers
Canvas Transfer-poster, print or photo
Canvas transfer involves transferring the physical image (you supply) from a print, poster, or photograph onto canvas, creating a finished piece that resembles an original painting. The canvas transfer process involves the following steps:
- Laminating the Print: The print is coated with a UV-protected laminate film (matte or luster finish) to ensure durability.
- Softening the Paper: The laminated print is soaked to soften its backing paper.
- Removing the Paper: The softened paper is carefully removed by hand, leaving only the thin ink layer on the laminate film.
- Applying to Canvas: The laminated ink layer is pressed onto high-quality (100% cotton) canvas, using heat and pressure allowing the texture to transfer into the print.
- Stretching and Framing: The transferred canvas is stretched onto a wooden frame and finished with tape along the edges, making it ready to hang.
This method results in a canvas piece that mimics the depth and texture of a painting, unlike giclee printing, which directly prints digital images onto canvas.
